STAGE 2 ON HOW TO SKETCH. FASHION ILLUSTRATION
STAGE 2 ON HOW TO SKETCH
If you are just joining us, you may wish to see the first
stage on how to sketch here: BASIC STEPS ON HOW TO SKETCH.
1: Join the lines
This stage shows us on how to join the lines together. Using
your ruler, now begin to join all angles together from one end to the other.
Don’t worry about the straight lines, we are heading somewhere. Remember you
were told not to hard press your pencil on your paper to enable you clean any
error.
2: Draw the legs and hands
Now that you have joined the lines together, from the
shoulder to the waist to the hip to the knee line, now draw the legs, add the
feet and draw the hands of 9cm using your ruler from the shoulder.
3: Curve the joined edges
Notice that the joined lines are straight, aren’t you
wondering why the croquis body shape had to be straight on all angles? Of
course, human body is curvy all round, no human has features of straight joints
like we’ve seen previously. Now begin to curve all joints; the shoulder to hand,
the neck to shoulder, head to neck, curve the waist, hips, knee, like this…
4: Erase the lines
Now that you are done curving, use your quality eraser to
gently and carefully erase the rough edges while curving, also the rough parts
of the sketch to get a fine sketch. Erase all the lines: the waist line, hip line and knee line.
5: Face features
Now, begin to add features to the face. Don’t be scared,
don’t be bothered if you cant add features to the face, it is usually
irrelevant as a starter. The aim of sketching is to showcase how you want your
clothes to be made and to be able to design your clothes, so don’t worry about the
face. The focus is on the body.
So guys, tell me, how do you feel learning this and knowing
